I’ve been meaning to write about Geek Girl Brunch Miami for a while now, and look I’m finally doing it! I’ve had this post sitting in my drafts for the past 6 months, and I know I know, that’s pretty terrible. But better late than never, amirite?
Geek Girl Brunch Miami has been such an amazing thing in my life, that if it was disbanded tomorrow I would cry enough to make an 8th ocean.
When I moved back to Miami from Tallahassee a couple of years ago, I didn’t have the group of amazing ladies I now call friends. Most of my evenings and weekends consisted of hanging out with my boyfriend Erik, or family. Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE spending time with Erik and I enjoy the times I spend with my family, but a girl needs girl friends and I didn’t really have any when I moved back. My memory is sometimes shitty, so I can’t really remember how I learned about Geek Girl Brunch, but I will tell you this: the first time I went to a Geek Girl Brunch outing I felt like I finally came home. These were girls that shared the same interests and tastes about tv shows, movies, video games, animes, etc. I felt like I had struck gold! And I was sooo giddy.
Since I waited super long to post about the awesomeness that is Geek Girl Brunch Miami, I’m going to be posting about the several brunches I’ve attended throughout these 2 years (woahh, has it been two years already??!). Since there’s SO MANY I’ve attended (about 14…say whaaat), I will be dedicating Time Travel Thursdays to each one (my version of #throwbackthursday, hehe).
So, before I get started; What is Geek Girl Brunch? Geek Girl Brunch is basically a community of geeky women who get together once a month to brunch and geek over geeky things. Each brunch is themed and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their favorite geeky attire or cosplay. Themes we’ve had include Harry Potter, Sherlock, Sailor Moon, Game of Thrones, Video Games, Murder Boyfriends (hah, I know you’ll understand in time), Star Wars Rogue One, and many many more.
Sooo, let’s get started! The Sailor Moon themed brunch took place many moons ago, on February 2016. This isn’t the very first brunch I attended, but it’s the first one I’ll be sharing with you, dear reader. When I was looking through my external for all the brunch pics I’ve taken (which btw, there’s about a gajillion!), these were the first ones that popped up.
The Sailor Moon themed brunch was held at Ra Sushi in South Miami. The staff surprised us with their own Sailor Moon decorations!

For the brunch, I dressed up as Sailor Mars. As a child, she was my favorite because she had black hair like me…but as an adult, Usagi is my fave because well..she’s pretty much me.

If you’re interested in Geek Girl Brunch Miami, it’s super simple and free to join! And if you don’t live in Miami but wish you could be a part of something cool like this, well you’re in luck because Geek Girl Brunch is actually all over the World! Check out if there’s a chapter in your neck of the woods here.
*Protip For Miami Brunchettes: since seats are limited, depending on the brunch, tickets sell out REALLY fast. I suggest you set an alarm (or two) for when the brunch evites go out. Otherwise, you might miss out on all the fun times.
You’re welcome.

What an awesome idea! I love to see people create the environments that they want to be in. And yes, boyfriends are great, but a girl does need her crew. Glad you found them 🙂
